Here at HeARTspot Art Center and Gallery, we not only teach a variety of art lessons offered by a large number of local experts; we do this is a calming, beautiful environment which also contains an art gallery and locally sourced artist gift shop.
We're located right off 195, 5 minutes from Providence. We have a large parking lot, wheelchair accessibility and a warm, caring staff. All classes are small group insuring lots of one on one attention and assistance. Our rates are highly competitive and we work with wide ranging populations from children through adults. We also specialize in working with special needs and at risk populations. Jennifer recruits like-minded teachers who very approachable and love working with students.
Founder Jennifer Gillooly Cahoon is a 20-year veteran of the public school system where she taught art and special education classes. In college, she attended RIC but supplemented her education in both England and Italy. She is an accomplished artist who has been collected by a wide-ranging audience which includes work purchased by international collectors. (CV available upon request)
In her first year, Jennifer's art center was nominated as one of the top three galleries in the state of RI. She views her art center as a place to not only bring an appreciation of art to the community, but also as a place where artists can hone their skills, newbies can learn in learn in an enriching, safe environment and where community can build and gather, and where local artists can find a second home.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
New students are gently led through the art process they are attempting to learn. Instruction is as highly individualized as possible and concrete feedback given promptly when needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have undergraduate degrees in both art eduation and fine art. My masters degree is in the area of special education with a concentration on working with behaviorally and emotionally challenged children.
I supplemented my art education in both England and Italy during and after college. (Sculpture) I am a self-taught painter who has participated in a large number of solo and group shows in New England.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Small group lessons generally work out to between $15-$20 per contact hour plus materials.
Individualized instruction runs for $75/hr plus materials.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching straight out of college in 1996 in the public school system. I began teaching at independant art institutions in 1998 and established my own art center in 2017 where I teach a wide variety of art classes. I also emploly local artists who specialize in areas I do not to run classes at HeARTspot.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children through older adults. (Beginner through advanced) I've also taught special education and at-risk population groups.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If you're a beginner, seek someone out who is not only knowlegeable, but also good at the art of teaching. Teaching in and of itself is an art.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is it I'm looking to learn? What are my long-term goals? Am I looking to learn how to do this as a hobby or to master the craft as a way to create work for sale?
