Ricky Mier is one of the most exciting young banjo players I’ve heard. With a fertile imagination and the technique to support it, Ricky is on the cutting edge of the latest crop of banjo adventurers. I look forward to seeing where he takes the banjo next.

First off let me start by saying when I first spoke with Rick I explained that I had recently been diagnosed with a medical condition and requested he be patient with me through the learning process. He has been more than accommodating and he has made each lesson a fun learning experience . I told Rick that my goal was to be able to go to Jam sessions and fit in and be able to play along ,since i started he has been preparing me with a solid repertoire and skill set to be able to accomplish this task. I have been to a few teachers over the years and Rick is the first one that truly gets “it” . I would give Rick a solid “A” if I were to give him a grade if anybody is looking for a great Banjo teacher .

Ricky has been a wonderful teacher! I learned so much from him in our time together but I had to move so I was not able to continue. Ricky is such a patient and creative teacher which really helps with each lesson. If I could sneak in a 6th star on this review I would! Thank you so much Ricky!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

In order to guage how to work best with a new student, I'll typically either have them play something for me or we'll play some music together. From this I'm beter able to see the roots of issues that prevent the student from either developing or expressing themselves.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am an Alumni of Berklee College of music and have 3 years of full time performance experience.

How did you get started teaching?

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with students of all ages including toddlers.
