About
I have been a practicing artist for over 15 years, and have 10+ years of teaching experience in many different settings. I have taught k-8 art classes in Boston Public Schools for 9 years, and have taught adults and teens in museum and arts non profit settings for 5 years. I have my BFA in painting and education and an MFA in 2d interdisciplinary fine arts from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. This fall I will be teaching Contemporary Art Theory at Wentworth Institute of Technology. My own art practice consists of painting, drawing and printmaking. I am an avid museum and gallery goer and love to share my skills and knowledge with others of any age!
Art making serves as a wonderful way to challenge one's self, open the mind and discover creative passion. Art making can be therapeutic and brings a sense of joy and confidence to each student. I love being a facilitator in the process of my students finding their own visual language and style as they develop technique and learn about the history of art forms. Creating art is a way to get to know yourself more deeply, as well as connecting to a rich global culture that is as old as humankind. I bring a sense of play, humor and experimentation to each of my students. I have well rounded knowledge of art history and contemporary art and technique and love to share that with my students. There is no one way to be an artist!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start with a very informal interview about a student's experience and interests. If the student already has fine art experience I request to see some of their work as well as sharing a bit of mine. Then we will do a few exercises so I can get to know what skill level the student is at. I will then come up with a flexible syllabus fitted to the needs of the student that includes a materials list. Each class we will do a short critique with a bit of analysis of an artist or art piece related to the assignment, as well as discussing technique before spending time working on the assignment. At the end of class we will do another mini critique. I assign a fun/optional "homework" assignment as well.
