Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We will assess what the student has already study and worked on before our time together, and fill in any gaps that may be present. Solid fundamentals are important when playing any instrument, but especially low brass instruments which require major physical effort.
We will discuss the student's musical goals and intertwine those goals with what the standard and expectation is for their level and age. If a student has music they want to work on for their own enjoyment, that can be incorporated as well. It is important to enjoy practicing and performing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Temple University- Bachelor of Music
Carnegie Mellon University- Master of Music
Indiana University- Doctor of Music
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I am happy to offer a 30 minute trial lesson for a discounted rate for prospective students. If the student is interested in continuing lessons, we can work out a payment plan that works for the student and teacher.
How did you get started teaching?
I am from a family of music educators, and have been exposed to music education since as long as I can remember. I started formally teaching in high school, and haven't stopped since.
What types of students have you worked with?
Beginning to Advanced
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who is responsive to personal goals you have, but also mixes those with the current standard for your playing level. Music is more fun and enjoyable the better you are at technique and getting to know your instrument.
