Deborah Rubin Fine Art
About
I teach all watercolor techniques, materials, and aesthetics. It takes all three to do good work. I've been teaching for 13 years, painting since a child. I have a BFA in design from the University of Illinois and did grad work at University of Minnesota. I've had many one person exhibits, group shows, juried shows, awards, and many paintings in corporate collections. www.deborahrubin.com
It's a way of giving back from all the years of learning and doing in my studio. Everybody has creativity in them. They just don't know it. I love to see that emerge, to see a self confidence from the student, to see a delight in what comes from them and their endeavors.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I find out about their previous art background and what their goals are for the class. Then I change up things according to that. Beginners need everything...intermediates can go into techniques and advanced skip over to more self expression and art problems to solve.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BFA in design, grad work in painting. Professional painter since 1977. Teaching since 2003
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Private class is $100 for 2 + hours.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types. Beginners and advanced. Teens and elderly.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be flexible and know that mistakes lead to learning. It's all about the doing and the practicing.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Try to be realistic in their goals. it's that 10,000 hour rule....to get good at something. It doesn't happen in a week. But one can feel good about what they're doing and that leads to practicing more and getting better.
