About this pro

I received my MFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of New Hampshire, in addition to studying at Studio Art Centers International, in Florence, Italy.

As I professional artist, I have actively exhibited my work throughout New England and beyond. My work has been featured at Fitchburg Art Museum, Green Mountain College, Kyoto Seika University in Japan, Emory University, Northern Arizona University Art Museum, and Rogue Space Chelsea, New York. My work is currently represented by Art Galleries and Art Dealers along the East Coast, including Carrie Coleman Fine Art, The Drawing Room, Greenfield Gallery, Northern Daughters Gallery, and Michael Findlay Fine Art.

In conjunction with my professional art-making practice, I am passionate about inspiring others, teaching Art to a wide range of ages via academic institutions and art centers, most recently teaching at Green Mountain College and at River Gallery School in Brattleboro, VT since 2013. When teaching privately, I welcome students to my studio where they have access to professional art materials and supplies, or to meet them at their own studios and homes.

I am passionate about art-making and teaching, and sharing the joys of my practice and education with others.

I'm enthralled with Cameron’s passion for making art, she provides such wonderful insight and direction. I find her basic principles most helpful, especially for someone new to oil painting. Watching Cameron demonstrate her techniques, rather than just talking about them, makes all the difference in the world. Seeing her paintings evolve, from picking the colors and getting the palette set up to putting paint to paper from start to finish, is worth every minute. I also enjoy when she stops by your easel to discuss a work in progress and to talk about technique, process, and how to proceed. I can’t say enough about Cameron as a artist and an instructor, actually she goes way beyond, she is an amazing soul.

Cameron Schmitz is a fabulous teacher! Her classes are characterized by positive energy, creativity and excellent organization. Every time I have the pleasure of taking a class I am struck by the way she can seamlessly blend time for painting, review and a helpful exposure to other contemporary artists. Her teaching method is grounded in solid experience in all aspects of the art world, yet she is sensitive to what it might be like to be a student just learning the basics of painting.

Cameron has a wealth of knowledge that she shares freely. She presents visual examples as guidance to the possibilities in the assignment. Her aesthetic sensibilities come through everything she says. She is also very encouraging to painters at all levels. I learned a lot from her and look forward to taking more classes in the future.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When working on-on-one with students I begin with correspondence with my student to find out what they are seeking to learn and where they are at. I teach total beginners who have never drawn and painted before, to more experienced artists looking to hone their skills. All of this involves proper communication so that I can create a curriculum and lessons that are appropriate for each student and their unique interests and skill sets.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a professional fine artist (Oil Painter) with a MFA degree in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and a BFA degree in Painting & Drawing from the University of New Hampshire. I have worked as a professional artist selling my work since 2001, and am hired by institutions and individuals to teach painting and drawing.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My pricing is based on an hourly fee as well is if my lessons include access to materials or if student is supplying their own materials.
