Allen is a wonderful artist, who isnt afraid of experimentation or the unknown. His personal interest is landscape impressionism, so he excels at evoking emotion through color and texture. He has a solid grasp of color theory (which I desperately lack) and is able coach students, while giving them enough leeway to define their own unique style.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have painted plain air as a member of the Plein air painters of Maine for many years. I have been painting every day for 23 years. I have taken classes and read books that I thought were helpful.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Lessons usually take 2.5 hours. I charge $75 for my vast wisdom and experience.

What types of students have you worked with?

Mostly beginner and some with some experience. All just wanted to explore the process.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I had a two person show at Portland Art Gallery in 2016 and have another one coming up this November 2018.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Beginner students only need to show up.

All supplies will be provided and they will leave with a completed painting and a materials list for next lesson.

More experienced students can bring their own supplies and questions.
