About
I am a classically trained fine artist and art educator with a BFA in Oil Painting and many years of experience in showing my work and teaching fine art to all ages. My house is my art studio, situated on a beautiful mini-farm in the country. I teach Painting and Drawing to adults on Tuesday mornings. My students can work in the lovely old farmhouse, on the big enclosed porch with views of the horses and woods, or about the grounds and trails. This is a very special place where students can immerse themselves in inspiration and learn to draw and paint or improve current skills in a friendly and supportive environment, under the direction of a practicing professional artist.
I love being an artist and sharing what I know with my students, helping them discover their own language of art. Beginners are encouraged to work on structured assignments, while more advanced students can pick up from wherever they are. I am available for demonstrations and critiques as needed, visiting and helping students as they work.
You can see my love for nature and form in the artwork on my website at maralevin.com.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask students about their interest in art, experience, and what they want to learn. I encourage them to show me recent or current projects or, if they are beginners, to talk about what kind of artwork interests them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied drawing, painting, and sculpture with many master teachers at a famous art college, Boston University School of Fine Arts, resulting in a BFA in Oil Painting. After college, I took education courses at BU and Suffolk Universities and became a certified High School Art Teacher in Boston. I taught for many years in public and private schools. I have also shown and sold my artwork in many galleries, shows, and shops. My art education has continued with courses in terracotta, calligraphy, illustration, and graphic design for print and web. All my art experiences have strengthened my knowledge and abilities, especially in composition, understanding of form, and helping others to learn to express themselves through art.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My Tuesday morning group class sessions are ten 2-hour lessons for $300, which comes to $30 for each 2-hour class. I also offer a limited number of private lessons for $50 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I signed up to sustitute teach in the Boston Public Schools and was hired full time on the first day of the school year at Boston Technical High School. During that first year, my supervisor was impressed with my work and recommended I go back to school for education courses, so I did.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages, 2 yrs. old to older adults. Everyone can learn to draw and paint, if they have the interest. As an advanced professional in the field, I can help them go far if they have the desire and the willingness to put in the work.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I turned more than half my house into a collection of spaces to set up, make, store, and hang art. It's wonderful! I am surrounded by my adventures in art and it's fun to have students come to play.
