Doug is not only an excellent and knowledgeable artist himself, but he has such a wonderful way of sharing his love for art and the outdoors, teaching and encouraging his students, and keeping his classes fun.

I truly loved painting with Doug. He has a very casual way of teaching you what you need to know and how to go about it. If you have any questions at all he is there for you and makes sure you are understanding what you need to know. He will also show you the technique on his canvas with everyone around him. During the class he examines every person's canvas and gives you ideas how to get to your goal. Doug has a wonderful personality and makes the class experience fun and exciting. I have truly enjoyed my previous classes with him. It it wonderful to learn from such a great artist.

Doug has a great sense of humor, he is very positive, and supportive. He has years of experience; painting for most of his life. He guides the class on developing composition with good values having a strong design, color harmony and contrast. He begins each class with a demonstration, leaving time for painting and individual instruction. It’s a great class - so much fun and so much to learn! Check out his website www.dhcaves.com

I have found Doug Caves' classes to be extremely helpful and inspiring. His instruction is clear, and his teaching approach is nurturing and encouraging with a healthy dash of humor. Highly recommend!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like to understand the student's motivation for learning, the students expectations from the classes, and the to assess the student's natural and learned abilities. We move forward from that starting point by setting goals and then devising a path to reach those goals. Practice and experimentation with the media, constructive and critical discussion is encouraged. The student is encouraged to develop thier point of view, their style, their voice.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have decades of experience studying and practicing in the arts, centered on making art and communicating in a learning environment.
