Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Having a casual meeting and creating a good line of communication, so I totally understand what the student is wanting to learn about the photography world. This should be fun and some understanding of photography and how to create in their own way. I have a very open personality and truly have a comfertable way with people. The enjoyment of what I do will be exposed, ha, no pun intented.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I always loved photography and started when I was fifteen years old and continued to follow my passion. Then training with Dean Collins in SanDiago CA. He was the best instructor anyone could ever have for the commercial industry.
Dean taught me to be myself with photography and developing my own style along using available light to my advantage. Again, creativity! it's absoulty rewarding!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I believe that everyone has certain levels of training needs, so after a conversation about what they are looking for I'll be able to determine how much I would charge. It would vary from hourly rate to a flat rate for weeks of training. I'm certainly here to help and make it afortable.
How did you get started teaching?
When I had my Studio in Massachusetts I started. It all started when I was asked by many people that I was photographing. They felt a connection that I was so very helpful with answering the questions about how I did that and I'd answer them, so they could understand. The rest is in proper communciation skills and helping them to have results in the photos. It was a pleasure to teach and truly enjoy the results with them.
What types of students have you worked with?
Interesting enough, all ages from teenagers to seniors. I believe when someone has the ability to enjoy creating what they thought they never would be able to do. It's outsatnding to watch the look on there faces.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Snow shoeing up at loon and jsut getting lost in the outdoors and capturing it in it' natural state. Honestly I have so many I could talk about we don't have enough space on this site.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A few things come to mind. Being happy with the photographers/teaching ability and getting along with each other. Being able to ask questions, no matter what the question is. Every question for a student is an important question. Don't be afraid to ask over and over till you get it.
It's my pleasure to make sure you understand.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Exactly what they want to learn about photography. Questions are very important for learning all aspects of photography.
