About the teacher
I teach art to kids and adults, both individually and in small groups.
I currently teach 2 courses in watercolor and a course in drawing in my home studio in Roslindale, as well as give private lessons and teach art to kids as a part of an after school program.
l have background in academic drawing, although my passion is watercolor. My classes are based on my own experience; I am constantly trying new things with my students and improve my courses. I try to incorporate as much information as possible, give a lot of exercises, while keeping my classes fun.
I teach in English and Russian.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I'd like to learn about the student's goals. Do you want to learn how to capture the beauty of everyday objects? Impress your friends (perfectly legitimate goal :))? Have time for yourself relaxing and doing something creative? Broaden your horizons and try a new hobby? Have you done art before and want to hone your skills? Are you looking for an art instructor for your child? Once we have established the goals, I can offer a lesson plan taylored to your needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been drawing since I was a child. I went to an art school and got a pretty solid background in academic drawing. I took courses in the history of art and architecture in college (and was lucky to have a chance to lead my own guided tours!). I am a certified Grumbacher watercolor instructor. I always keep learning; I have taken drawing and watercolor courses at Boston MFA.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40 for private classes and $25 for group classes. Some people prefer private classes. The benefits are obvious: you get instructor's undivided attention and the course can be tailored to your needs. Some of my clients enjoy doing art with friends, and it works beautifully in a small group environment! It's fun; you get extra support and learn from other students' mistakes. Besides, it's so great to have a shared interest! I noticed that children enjoy doing art in small groups, too.
How did you get started teaching?
A friend of mine once asked me to do a paint night. She had been to a couple of those, but was dissatisfied with the instructor's explanations. "It's just a step-by-step, and they did not really tell us anything, it's too primitive", she said. Then another friend said she wanted to do watercolor, but could not find any good classes. She asked me to do something, too. I decided to give it a try. 2 years later, I have a lot of regular clients! They have also made new friends in my studio and sometimes meet socially :) They like the progress they are making and the atmosphere of the classes.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students of all ages, 6 to 60 years old. Most of my students are beginners. I do have clients with some experience in drawing/painting, too.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Roslindale Open Studios. I'm planning to participate this year, too :))
