I am a teaching artist. My desire to start my own Art School is rooted in my family history and love to teach. Art is a tool for a personal growth and my job is to teach others how to use it without hurting themselves and those around them.
We are born creative, but if we neglect to develop and strengthen these skills, our creativity becomes inhibited. By encouraging a child's creativity, you set the stage for endless opportunities for that child's imagination. A healthy imagination not only creates a resourceful and productive individual, but it also builds self-esteem.
40 years later these same people become adults in classes like Art Center's and evening programs in Colleges. Many of them have lost their creativity and imagination on its way, but now have knowledge, education and very different kind of curiosity. Teaching adults I always remind myself that the mediocre teacher tells, the good one explains and the brilliant one inspires

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If student is a total beginner I have a special exercise that teaches students how to look at the world, how to see what we want (or not) from the point of an artist. Doing 6 drawings we learn all teh basics about composition and Greek "golden middle". I also teach a very base of color theory on the first class.
If student is an intermediate I ask them to bring their portfolio. We look at it together, talk and I honestly tell the student what I see I can help them with in learning, better understanding and inspiring.
Art appreciation and high standards are very important in a way I teach.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been studying art since I was 5. In a Soviet Union it took me through wonderful Art School for children at the Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, Classical Academy, rebellion, getting involved with dissident movement, being lucky and becoming a student of Grisha Bruskin and later moving to New York. My Bachelor degree is from SUNY and MFA from Museum School and Tufts. I also have expired, but well learned art therapy certificate from NY state. Knowledge of psychology and arthistory influences the way I teach.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Ivention of 2 classes. One of them is a painting class "Can I Paint Like That?" which approaches art very historically from one side, but is also a perfect place for self-expression, because students have to understand what is that they really like in Art.
