About

The focus is helping others appreciate nature and science through direct observation using traditional art media. I teach illustration, drawing, painting and print making. My background is in Biology, ecology, wetlands and natural science illustration.

I enjoy seeing others get excited to learn a new media or new technique. It is rewarding to help others see the world around us in a new way. I especially love giving people new found confidence and purpose. I feel that art can be very healing and uplifting in ones life.

Only one lesson so far. So far, so good! Patrica is a knowledgeable, talented, patient, kind person. She takes her time teaching, offers positive reinforcement and is someone who makes you feel comfortable to try new things. I would recommend her.

Tricia is an enthusiastic creative and motivational teacher ! She possesses a solid experience in Art education. She encourages artistic expression from her students and mentoring them to their full potential. Tricia excels at building strong student relationships , acting as a teacher , advisor and role model earning continued recognition from her students for her dedication and teaching excellence. My daughter has been taking Art lessons with Tricia for well over a year now and she is one of the most talented people we have come to know.
Thank you Tricia for all that you do! You always go above and beyond!

My children have both attended programs with Tricia. Both girls loved the program. Tricia meets the kids at their own level so one of my daughters really loves art and the other was “along for the ride.” She gave each child what they needed to have a really positive experience. Tricia is also really kind and easy to work with and I would highly recommend her programs to any parent.

    Frequently asked questions

The first step in working with a student is finding out about their past art experience. Once I know where they are coming from I can design the lessons around what they already know or don’t know. If the student is unsure of what media to work with or what subjects to paint and draw, I will come up with that for them and guide them through how to use the media and how to go through the process of developing a final piece. For drawing I like to start with gesture drawing as a warm up exercise. Students will learn how to create form on a 2-D surface, and realism from direct observation. Students will learn about the color wheel and how to mix colors and about gradients (black, whites and gray tones). I try and make all my students feel comfortable and always give positive encouragement.

I have a degree in Biology from Bridgewater State College (now University) and a Certificate in Natural Science Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design. I have been teaching art lessons since 2014 and also work as a Conservation Agent protecting wetlands and land in general. I have also been a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators since 1998 and the New England Chapter of this group since 2000. I am currently the Membership Director for the National Guild.

$30 for an hour individual lesson

$25 per student for and hour and 1/2 class lesson

I started teaching by volunteering with non-profit environmental education organizations and people had an interest in further lessons so I started offering them.

I have worked with kids as young as 6 and teens as old as 19. I have also worked with adults.
