R.D. King Music Lessons
About
Music changed my life. I'm passionate about helping it change yours. Wherever you are in your musical journey, I can help you advance to the next level -- on the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, or in songwriting or composition.
I'm an active teacher, performer, and composer. My teaching philosophy is built around musicality, technique, and self-expression. I'm a classically-trained, award-winning guitarist and composer with over a decade of experience helping students find joy and meaning through music.
Lessons focus on working towards your personal musical goals, be that specific songs, styles, or simply becoming familiar with an instrument. I structure lessons to include warmups, techniques, songs, theory, ear training, and expression.
I graduated from Ithaca College in 2013 with a degree in classical guitar performance, and have performed and taught across New England ever since. I've released two solo guitar albums, the second of which was released under Candyrat Records, an international record label. I've been featured as a TEDx Cambridge performer, and won the 2017 Canadian Guitar Festival’s International Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and the 2018 Walnut Valley Festival NewSong Showcase (Instrumental Category).
Parents: I have taught dozens of students under the age of 10 and understand the unique challenges of keeping young students engaged and interested.
I teach across Greater Boston but also offer Skype lessons for those far away.
For me, the greatest joy of teaching is watching students develop the ability to be expressive, musical players. Everyone has their own unique musicality to untap, and it's rewarding to be a part of the student's journey of self-discovery.
