Russell Chud Music Lessons

Russell does a terrific job of tailoring the lessons to the specific needs of the student and adapts the work as the needs change. Also, he does a great job of keeping it interesting by working on music that the student is into.

What I like most about Russell is that he is such an enthusiast and encyclopedic savant of modern and classic folk, rock, blues and country. If he doesnt know the song from memory, hell fire it up on his phone and figure it out in real time. And he readily adjusts to what you want and need. If you just want a partner to play with, thats fine with him. If you want to go deep on music theory, hes there for you as well.

I’m a sixty something year old music fan who has casually toyed around with guitars most of my life. I finally decided to get a bit more serious about the guitar about 3 years ago after seeing an ad for lessons with Russell, whom I had recently seen perform in concert. From the beginning, Russell worked with me on my very basic knowledge of chords, strums, and scales. He helped me to break bad habits learned over time, and he much improved my understanding of the guitar. Russell shares my great appreciation for classic and country rock, and he has taught me to play dozens of my favorites. All I need to do is name a tune, and he’ll Spotify it, play it by ear, write out the chords and basic tabs, and walk me through it. Then he’ll have me video him playing it to use for my homework practice. In teaching me a song, he’s extremely observant and patient, making sure I get each beat, finger pattern, strum, chord, and note right. Russell lets me explore some of the more complex songs I want to attempt, yet he knows when to reel me in when I need more work on the basics. He’s a great teacher, and I continue to enjoy each lesson.

I had a fun and productive time with Russell! He works by allowing the student to lead. When he gave my guitar lessons, he would teach me the basics of playing guitar through songs that I wanted to learn how to play. He has an excellent ear where he could write me the tune of a song by ear. He is very respectful and thoughtful of the student. Highly reccomend

Russell is an amazing player who takes the time to teach you patiently and with great insights on what you are learning and how it relates to not only the song but the theory behind it. Hell amaze you with his ability to teach you anything you throw at him no matter the style of music.
