Nicole's Melodymaking Studio
About
My name is Nicole Doughty and I am a music teacher in the Worcester area. From a very young age I new that music needed to be a part of my life. I wanted learn an instument but could not decide on one. In the second grade, I was instoduced to the instrument called the flutophone. After being taught how to read music, I decided I wanted to play the flute. That summer, I began flute lessons with a private instructor. I played flute through my sophomore year of high school. During this time, I had the opportunity to play in school bands and marching bands. I also played for Catholic Masses at my family's church. When I was nine years old, I began taking private voice lessons. In the beginning of my junior year of high school, I made the decision to focus on studying voice. I studied at the preparatoy program at Longy School of Music. While there, I also studied music theory and aural skills. During my college years, I studied voice and earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Perfomance at Keene State College. Currently, I am a member of the Worcester Chorus. Along with my many years of vocal study, I expanded my interest in musical instruments and studied saxaphone and piano during my college years. Piano was my secondary instument and saxaphone I took on for fun. I only studied for one year, but found the time to be very educational. Even though I used diaphragmatic breathing when I sing, studing saxophone helped me understand it ven more. My experiences throug high school and college have led me to perform in places such as Disney World, Symphony Hall, Tanglewood and on television. I was asked to join one of the choirs I sang in while in college as an alumni. The Chamber choir peformed on PBS out of Springfield, Ma for a choir competition that was televised.
As a private instructor, not only will I focus on building proper technique of the student's desired instrument, I will help them learn basic Music Theory skills.
