Dineijah’s Flute Lessons
About
Hello prospective flute students! My name is Dineijah Attidore-Charles, and I moved to Baltimore about a month ago to attain my master's in music performance and music theory from the University of Maryland. Born and raised on St. Thomas, USVI, I recently graduated from Jackson State University in May with my B.A. in Music Education, with an instrumental emphasis on the flute. I've been playing the flute since I was in 4th grade, and have loved it ever since. I look forward to grad school because I want to meet people to look up to and have a challenge. I'm usually who people around me look up to as a flautist, but I know I have a lot of room for improvement.
To get into grad school, I will need a flute upgrade, so hopefully I can give lessons to earn some extra income towards a new instrument and grad school. I currently work as a front desk agent at Fairfield Inn & Suites. You can see some short clips of me playing on my Instagram page @dee_a_c, and some longer videos on my YouTube channel which is my name, Dineijah Attidore-Charles. Thank you for considering business with me!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with a student starts with setting a baseline so I can assess the playing level of my students. I give an etude that I think the student might be able to play based on how long they've been playing, and depending on how that goes I will give the student something more difficult (if they breeze through the etude), something easier (if the student appears to be struggling too much), or keep the etude (if the student misses a couple notes or rhythms, but doesn't completely stop too many times).
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A. in Music Education.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate for lessons is $20 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I love to play my flute, but 9/10 times, teaching is an easier job to find that a performing gig so I decided to get my first degree in education. I taught at a summer camp, I instructed the flute ensemble at Jackson State University my last year there, and I did my student teaching internship at Spann Elementary School.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked mainly with elementary level students, but have worked with high school, and college level students (non-music majors) as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I reached out to Sarah Frisof, the flute instructor at University of Maryland, and am excited to have my first lesson with her next week!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell the student to make sure that they know their major scales at the very least before hiring a teacher for lessons.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should ask themselves:
1. Do I have working equipment?
2. Do I know my scales?, and
3. How could I play (piece name) better?before talking to teachers about their needs.
