Nancy Conrad's Studio
About
A classically trained artist, I have been teaching privately in my own studio for about 40 years, in Fells Point for over 20 years where a partner, Melvin Miller, and I operated the Conrad-Miller Studios and Gallery. After we dissolved the partnership, I then moved to the Broom Factory in Canton and finally to Raspeburg in the northeast corner of Baltimore.
I love to paint and I enjoy seeing others develop the tools to express their artistic vision.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Each student does two still life paintings which I set-up and explain each step in executing them so that they are exposed to basic tools. I then have students do one small painting utilizing objects they have already done and I watch to see if I have covered all the bases. After which we talk about compostion, basic drawing, linear and aerial perspective, form, values, color, and line interest. After that discussion, the student is encouraged to paint a still life that the student sets up. From then on, the student is free to tackle whatever, and I serve as coach and critic.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied with the late renowned Jacques Maroger, former technical director of the Louvre and graduated from the Maryland Institute of Art in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts Painting. I have painted and worked as a studio artist for my entire life and have always had students, many of whom are quite accomplished.
