About

LaToya Peoples is a multidisciplinary artist and educator with 20 years experience working in the realms of mixed media painting, and public/community arts and art education. Her work focuses on figuration, color, and pattern, as a way of exploring identity, and history. She carries these themes over to her mural and sculptural installation work, creating transformative pieces guided by community engagement and creative input. Her commissioned works live in the collections of University Maryland Medical Center, UMS School of Virology, Denver Urban Arts & Venues, Baltimore Office of Promotion and Arts, and Baltimore Department of Parks and Rec.

Peoples has also worked as an educator and coordinator for visual arts programming in Pennsylvania and Maryland. She has taught youth and adults through employment with the Baltimore City Public School System and partnerships with the National Museum of Ceramic Art, Art with a Heart, Arts Everyday and Jubilee Arts Center. Currently she teaches visual arts workshops at the Enoch Pratt Free Library and at the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland.
