Bethany Hicks Art Lessons
About
I have an AFA in photography and currently attend Maryland Institute College of Art to get my B.F.A in photography. I have been trained in the basics of painting, drawing, and sculpting. Recently I taught art classes for students ranging from ages 4-12. I also worked with 6-year olds as a camp counselor. Going to school at MICA gives me the advantage of being in Baltimore City pretty much every day. As a college student, I can be flexible with scheduling. I also have many of the techniques currently in practice so they are fresh in my mind when I teach.

Art is awesome in itself but there is something special about kid art work. They have unique eyes that have not been trained to think about things a certain way. I love looking at their interpretation of life through art.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I like to see where they are comfortable first. What is their style, technique, ect. Next, I like to introduce concepts building block style. For example, learn primary colors and experiment with mixing them together. I prefer to introduce a concept and then let the child experiment and discover. At the end of the lesson, we discuss what was learned. I also like to keep a sketch book with the student to chart progress.
