Frequently asked questions

I first like to get a sense of what the students level of understanding is of the photographic process as it relates to the camera and recording images with todays technology as well as the desired artistic outcome in terms of the finished product in order to custome tailor the students lessons.  Classroom style training and hands on experience in both classroom and outdoor environments are available.

My end goal for any student is that when you capture an image, it is unlikely you will want to delete it (be more selective before you click), and is solid in terms of exposure, composition, and lighting with no guessing as to whether it is going to turn out to your liking.

I have studied with world renouned photographers in most all photographic fields such as Portrait, Commercial, Landscape, Nature, Social Function and Glamour photography.

As part of my training as a member of The Professional Photographers Association of America thru the Maryland Chapter, I participated in and was print chairman for Professional Print Compititions thru out the year which is where photographers proved their level of craftsmanship.  Our competitions drew from some of the best Photographers from Maryland, Washington DC, Pensylvania, Deleware and Virginia.

There are so many levels of participation and needs of each student, such as classroom style only, the option of including remote location fieldtrips, one time basic training or on going lessons, that standard pricing is not practical.  I've never been a fan of menues that are a mile long with every possible option, but is always missing the one that best suites an interested student.  Once we discuss options, I custom tailor a lesson plan and put together a budget friendly package for each student.

I first started teaching upcomming professional photographers in the Professional Photographers Association of Maryland.  Over the years I became interested in working with those who are picking up cameras for the first time and some who were transitioning from film to digital capture.

I've worked with Professional photographers learning for the first time or trying to improve their skills as well as the novice who wants to improve their nature photographs or those special moments of the kids and family.

I would be looking for someone who is: knowledgable in the technical capturing of an image as it relates to the capabilities and limitations of your camera, capturing different subject matters in a wide variety of lighting and environmental situations and controlling the light in a multitude of lighting situations to suite the scene, and also understands how to incorporate these important basics in a compositionally sound artistic way in order to achieve your artistic vision.

Most of the important questions are hopefully addressed in the information and in the Q & A's on this site.  What's more important is to think thru and jot down a few notes as to your interests and goals so the instructor can design both informative and fun lessons for you.
