About

Yeji began her private studies with Meerenai Shim at the age of 12. She studied with Linda Toote at Boston University for BM in Music Performance and recently her MM in Flute Performance with Sarah Frisof and Aaron Goldman at University of Maryland, College Park, where she has led the section as a principal flutist. In February 2015, Yeji performed John Heiss’s Four Movements for Three Flutes with her trio at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. While residing in Boston, Yeji frequently played with New England Philharmonic, Brookline Symphony Orchestra and Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. Winner of the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Masterclass Competition, Yeji has performed in masterclasses of many artists, including Demarre McGill, Trevor Wye, Leone Buyse, Lorna McGhee, Jeanne Baxtresser, Jim Walker and Bonita Boyd.

She is a huge advocate for new music and chamber music. As a former board member of TEMPO, a student-run new ensemble at UMD, she participated as an active performer and worked onto TEMPO’s collaboration with composer Michael Poast for 2019 Maryland Day. While residing in Maryland-DC area, she has collaborated with local, living composers and organizations, such as Dominic Ellis, Jacob Housand and Mind on Fire.

Yeji freelances and teaches throughout the DC-Maryland-Virginia area. In addition to coaching sectionals at local schools including Springbrook High School, she currently teaches at Music and Arts in Greenbelt as well as Richardson School of Music in Takoma Park. She is looking to expand her studio in both institutions as well as starting her own at home. She emphasizes on having a good, flexible sound with expressive tone colors and solid techniques without strain on brain and body for all ages.
