Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by asking why the interest in firearms training and then what experience they have with firearms. We then set a personal goal and map out the training path to get there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 23yrs. of practical shooting experience with the military, spent 20 of my 25yrs. certified through the Maryland Police Correctional Training Commission as a firearms instructor for the MD State Police for the academy and officers on the road, competed with firearms for 5 years, held NRA certifications for law enforcement patrol rifles, hand guns, shotguns as well as personal protection. I'm also certified as a UTAH concealed carry instructor and continue to expose myself to other training opportunities.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
All of the prices are listed on my website and based on the level of training received.
How did you get started teaching?
Once I realized I was very good at the art of marksmanship and had a nack for helping others improve their shooting skills, I knew I was meant to teach and share my skills.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've trained novice shooters, those afraid of firearms, prior military and law enforcement as well as other instructors of different disciplines.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
There was a petite young lady who was deathly afraid of firearms but her son gave her a shotgun to use for home protection. She started the day with tears in her eyes when I simply asked her to handle the shotgun but she ended the day knowing how to load, unload, aim and fire the shotgun with confidence. To me that's everything.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't be afraid to ask about their experince, certifications and approaches to training you specifically.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do I want to take firearms training?
