About this pro

I tailor my approach to fit individual student's goals while building a strong,  fundamental  approach to the instrument.

I'm an active professional performer with experience in all styles of music at venues such as the Kennedy Center and the White House. This is combined with 40 years of teaching experience.

I will challenge you to find your weak spots and turn them into strengths. Your impediments will fall away so you can focus on the music!

You will learn how to teach yourself which is critical for lifelong learning in any area.

Our lessons will be engaging and fun!

I enjoy the process of building technical and musical skills through the accomplishment of small, obtainable goals.

I also enjoy the opportunity to adjust teaching methods to individual students based on their learning styles.

Teaching is a creative art that challenges me to become a better educator, musician and person!

Todd is an accomplished and versatile musician, he is very responsive to my interests and needs, and he does a great job managing the technology for on-line lessons. I look forward to continuing to study with him.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

The student should either have an instrument or consult me about obtaining one

Bring a music manuscript book to each lesson (spiral bound is best).  This is where we will enter exercises and keep track of your progress.

I will assess your current abilities during our first lesson. It is best to have something prepared to play. If you are a beginner,  just come add you are!

We will focus a lot on tone quality, no matter how good it is already!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a professional trombonist with a 32-year career with The U.S. Army Band in Washington, DC.

In addition, I have been teaching private brass lessons since 1982.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$40/30 minutes

$60/45 min

How did you get started teaching?

I had a studio of 40 students while working my way through college at the University of Texas at Arlington.

What types of students have you worked with?

I work with beginners through adults. While some of my students have gone on to become full-time musicians, the majority pursue other careers. The experience of music study and performance establishes effective learning skills, builds confidence and enhances the art of being human.
