My teaching philosophy centers around discovering each students unique needs and goals. I've been a professional orchestral cellist for almost 20 years with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. However, I have also performed as a soloist, chamber musician & in many non-classical groups across the northeast. My students have participated in all-state festivals, competitions, chamber music programs, recitals, summer music festivals, recording projects, youth orchestras, university orchestras & even gone on to music conservatories to major in music. I genuinely enjoy helping people of all ages & ability levels fufill the musical dreams.
I feel extremely lucky always feeling excited to go to work. Whether its an orchestra rehearsal, string quartet rehearsal, concert, outreach program, community service performance, group coaching or private lesson...I'm loking forward to it. What more could one ask for!?

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Whether you're an absolute beginner or already an experienced musician, we will chat about your goals & learning style. We'll make a plan & dig in! I look forward to getting to know the person.

How did you get started teaching?
Its actually an interesting story...As a teen, I was prinical cellist of my youth orchestra when a mom of another cellist asked if I would provide some private help to her son. I was a bit taken aback by the request but excited for the opportunity. We met together and went over the parts & I realized how much I absoluely loved teaching & helping people.
What types of students have you worked with?
Literally ALL KINDS. Age 2 1/2 - 70-something.
I've worked with students with various mental and physical disabilities, as well. I've worked with students with learning disabilities. As I've stated before, I've also worked with super talented students pursuing music as a career choice, too.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I've long coached chamber ensembles made up entirely of my cello students. I noticed how much they love to play music together. Recently, I rented a performance hall and had a sudent recital for just cello chamber music groups. It was a memorable evening for all, I think. I even tried to conduct a bit!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think the most important thing is the mixture of personalities. You want to enjoy your teacher and his/her teaching style & personality. The vast majority of music students ar looking for a rewarding artistic experience. ou need a teacher who will help you pursue that.
