Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We specialize in private, customized, one-on-one lessons. We assess the students needs and wants and create a personalized lesson plan for them. Group and perfromance based classes are also available to expand your lesson experience. (plenty of performance opportunities too!)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our instructors educational background can vary, but we have a lengthy interview process that includes performace and teaching evaluations. Because all instructors on staff go through this process, we can guarantee a very high level of music education from any of our faculty.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Not really only because it depends on the type of program and length of program you choose to enroll in. In any case, we wil help you pick the right program that suits your needs for educational goals, schedule, and budget.
How did you get started teaching?
Our founder saw a need for concise, well organized, and fun music instruction in his community and decided to open our school to serve this need locally.
What types of students have you worked with?
All kinds! We teach all levels, all ages and all styles as well as nearly every instrument. We have students that have reached finals on American Idol, America's Got Talent and The Voice. We have had students go on to become music majors in college and tour with BIG national touring acts. We are very open to a wide variety of students and try to nuture and cultivate their goals so they can achieve success in their music careers.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Too many to list! We have a ton of perfomance opportunities and our students have performed admirably at events like student showcases, Vine and Dine (a fundraiser for Gleaners Foodbank), Franklin Cider Mill, and other local events in the communities. A number of students have recently been accepted into college level music programs and we like to think we've had at least a little influence in making that happen.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask about their education and more importantly, their experience. Just because you can "play" does not automatically make you a good teacher. Ask for references or testimonials from other students. Ask how their lesson plans usually work and how they establish goals for their students. Lastly, music lessons fall into the "you get what you pay for" category so make sure you ask all the above questions before you decide to hire a teacher or music school.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
More important than what questions to ask a teacher, make sure you ask questions of yourself first. What are your objectives as a musician? Is it just for fun or more serious? Do you want to write your own songs? Do you want to perfom? Are you considering a career as a musician? Knowing what your goals are will help your teacher better lesson for your ongoing music education.
