About
Welcome to the Rumbell Music Studio! Crystal Rumbell has been teaching private lessons on band instruments since 2006. She has earned her Bachelors and Master's Degrees in Music Education, and has served as a director of band, orchestra, and choir throughout Michigan for seventeen years. Crystal strives to ensure that your student is comfortable and confident on their instrument, helping them to expand their playing ability in a variety of genres. A professional musician herself, Crystal is well-versed in the techniques needed to achieve that level of musicianship. Her ability to engage students and propel them to the next level of musicianship is a testament to the quality of education Crystal provides. All levels of students are welcome (beginner to advanced, children and adults). Students will learn both music theory fundamentals and instrumental technique in a positive and encouraging atmosphere.

We were so thankful for flexible hours that worked around our family’s busy sport/work schedules. Our daughter enjoyed the comfortable setting of a house and not a small, dark studio room. But most of all- I can’t say enough about the confidence that Crystal brings out in her students!! Her positive attitude and push to be better is so important- from novice to advanced students- Rumbell Music is certainly our first choice and should be anyone looking for lessons.

Crystal taught my son French horn and mellophone for 4 years while he attended Churchill High School. She was always very professional, kind, and cheerful. Her enthusiasm for instrumental music, and her many tips and tricks specific to my sons instruments, inspired him to grow from an average freshman musician to a senior leader in the wind ensemble. Crystal gently but firmly pushed my son out of his introverted comfort zone, encouraging him to participate in annual MSBOA ensemble competitions, and finally convincing him to compete as a soloist his senior year. Crystal has passed down her love of the French horn and mellophone so thoroughly that she has inspired my son to continue to play in his college band.
Crystal has shown herself to be a passionate supporter of our community by donating her lesson time as auction items for a Churchill High School marching band fundraiser. She is a 2002 graduate of Churchill High School, and was section leader of the mellophone section while there. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Music Education through Western Michigan University, where she also marched in the Bronco Marching Band and served as mellophone section leader. She has a Masters Degree from Boston University. In addition to French horn and mellophone, she teaches trumpet/cornet, trombone, baritone/euphonium, and tuba.

My boys both take music lessons with Crystal. One plays clarinet and the other plays coronet. I like how the lessons are geared to each boys learning styles and ages and how she gives them feedback after each section. Instead of giving the boys the answers when there may be something wrong, she helps them figure it out. Crystal is also very flexible with her hours and works around our hectic schedule. It’s very convenient for me that I am able to take both boys to the same plaxe for lessons.

Mrs. Rumbell is an incredible musician, but also demonstrates exceptional teaching skills. She understands how to communicate concepts clearly, coach students according to individual needs, provides guidance in a way that motivates, and develops the confidence of the musician.
