Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1. Explanation of what type of swing a hitter should have and why.
2. Video analysis of the hitter's swing, including a side-by-side comparison to where we want to be.
3. Provide a written Plan of Development for the player, as well as a video package of drills that will help the player develop strength and form.
4. Achieve our goal. I am NOT a coach who wants to create a PERPETUAL CUSTOMER, I want you to get where you need to be as quickly as possible! I will also train you with "slump-buster" techniques so YOU can make adjustments if you find yourself in a mid-season slump.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
- 30 years of coaching experience.
- 20 years of private hitting coach experience
- 15 years of playing experience, ending career due to injury as a scholarship-athelete starter at Wayne State University.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've coached every age group from 8 years old through high school.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure your coach gives you a specific plan of development that includes where you will STOP REGULAR LESSONS. There are WAY TOO MANY facilities and coaches who simply set you up to KEEP COMING IN because that is where the $$$ is!
My goal is to not only make you the best hitter you can be, but to help you self-correct if you start to slump.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What type of swing should I have?
Do you provide a written plan of development?
What is your longest-tenured regularly-scheduled student? It's okay to reconnect with your coach every now and then to get an extra set of eyes on your swing, but if someone has a student coming in every week or two for more than 6 months, then the coach is just trying to make money, not create a self-sustained hitter.
