Holistic Nutrition
About
I specialized in clinical research in my Master's of Science that helped me develop a new evidence-based treatment protocol for modulating gut microbiota for hormone balance and management of obesity and metabolic disorder. I went to school as an RN, then a neuroscientist, and I dropped out of my PhD program to heal myself as I found salvation in foods. This led me to years of study in biochemistry, research, and holistic diets that change the nervous system.
I was the writer and instructor for many courses by Matthew Kenney Culinary (also known as PlantLab), a fine dining raw foods culinary academy in California. Teaching culinary classes was a wonderful job, and now I teach people to cook clean in their own homes.
I also offer a decade's worth of experience as a meditation musician. Change your life by changing your thought patterns with instruments that bring the mind to a place of stillness and creativity, where one can integrate and process repressed emotions and stagnant energy. Following a session, the person will typically feel very energized and awake. These are played in a musical style unique to these instruments for the most gentle, yet most potent experience.
It is something I am naturally good at as someone who is both an artist and a scientist. I'm able to use my intuitive qualities to sense what a person needs and see clues within their biology. I'm a very gentle healer, but I like to work in modalities that create very deep and positive change contrary to the prescriptions we'd get for going to the doctor's office.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, we set up a phone consultation to determine your needs and if we are a good fit for each other. Next, we determine if your home or my home is best suited to your needs. For example, restorative yoga may be better for you at your home, but for a sound healing experience it would be more affordable for both of us to meet at my house.
We will set up short-term and long-term goals for you, and then review those together as we go to be sure you are on track.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
For yoga, I have certifications in Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Hatha, and Yin yoga. Most of these also carry with them a meditation protocol.
I am trained in Reiki through Holistic Well in Royal Oak, MI.
I have a Master's degree in Medical Nutrition from Stony Brook University School of Medicine, with various other studies in Medical Biochemistry (Univ of New England), Neuroscience (undergrad), and Psychology.
My culinary background came from healing my own health issues through nutrition, then attending a raw vegan culinary school and attending university for nutrition. I taught and worked as a private vegan chef for years for classes and catering.
I have performed and taught at several yoga festivals, and toured with the world's top masters of meditation and sound. I also sell the instruments I use for meditation.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Sliding scale depending on income.
How did you get started teaching?
I took a yoga teacher training course for my own benefit, not really intending to teach. When I found gong meditation, I knew I found what I wanted to teach.
What types of students have you worked with?
Special needs and disabilities, athletes, expectant mothers, and every kind of student in between. My students typically are looking to resolve both physical and emotional ailments, so generally my perfect student is looking for a therapeutic and holistic approach.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In October I hosted a kirtan, a gathering of music and chanting, at a yoga studio in Franklin. We had a potluck to follow afterwards. We had several children who attended, and it was amazing to see so many people around Detroit singing together...
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't worry too much about what to expect. Sound meditations are a different experience each time, much as yoga practice is going to be unique to each day and where the body is. Just go in ready to relax and open a new part of yourself. Meditation is about facing that which is uncomfortable - Be patient with yourself and how you approach it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The most important thing is the comfort of the student. Be sure to consider all ailments and conditions, and take a moment to contemplate if your issue is in just movement or if you'd like to transform yourself in other healthy ways as well.
