There were very many things about working with Chryss Porcelain, so may that I have taken repeated classes. Instruction and demonstrations were well presented and detailed. The materials presented were not only understandable but enhanced understanding of the beauty and history of the medium. Chrys also had a discerning eye and could point out problems that you might be having with your technique. I recommend her wholeheartedly!

    Frequently asked questions

I like to determine their goals. Do they want an object or to acquire a skill?
I have a BFA in Ceramics and am a master thrower, kiln builder, and metallurgist. I've been teaching pottery and ceramics for over 20 years.
The cost for lessons is $30 per hour. I meet with students once per week or bi-weekly for (4), (6), or (8) weeks, depending on their goals.
I began teaching while still in college, where I learned I had the aptitude for mentoring and teaching. It has become one of my biggest joys to witness others master a new skill and learn something new.
I've taught students of all ages, from Pre-K to 100 years old!
Chrys' Porcelain offers Pot Parties (r)! These are two-hour clay party one-off sessions where participants create and paint whatever they want using clay. Much like the painting parties, Pot Parties (r) are a fun experience, but unlike the painting parties, everyone makes whatever they want using clay. With Chrys' guidance, everyone is thriving and has fun!
"Just because an instructor holds a BFA in ceramics does not necessarily mean that they possess the ability to throw on the potter's wheel or teach the skill effectively. My best advice would be to avoid hiring an instructor who does not work in the same manner that you want to learn. In other words, do not hire a hand-builder with a BFA, as they may lack the experience and skill required to teach throwing on the potter's wheel, which is a different area of expertise. Instead, it's better to choose someone who has years of experience in throwing, as they would be better equipped to guide you towards success in that area."
What are the student's goals? Do they need down relax time to create something? Do they want an object to say; "I made this"? Do they want to acquire a skill?
