Pierre F. says, "She teaches two of my children. My daughter is ten years old and started working with Mrs. G at the age of six years old. My daughter’s feet couldn’t even touch the floor. I homeschool my children, so Mrs. G is my daughter’s first teacher outside of our family. Mrs. G worked with my daughter on her level. She would use props, like a toy spider, to emphasis the way you should hold your fingers. Being six, my daughter would talk to her about Roblox and her favorite YouTuber, and Mrs. G would tactfully guide the conversation back to the music without making my daughter feel like she wasn’t heard or her interest wasn’t important. Some songs would have words that you could sing along as you played the piano, and Mrs. G’s voice would captivate my daughter to the point her eyes would get that sparkle and she would smile from ear to ear. I attended every class with her along with my son, who was 4 years old at the time my daughter started. We would sit and listen to my daughter and Mrs. G play and discuss musical theory. Sometimes he would get a little antsy, and Mrs.G would slide him some crayons and paper, a where’s Waldo book, and at times even an etch a sketch (that would bring back childhood memories for me). Eventually, after a few years, my son developed an ear for music and wanted to learn how to play the piano. So, Mrs. G would allow him to actually participate in some of the music related games she and my daughter would do. He got so into the music, that one day he told me that he wanted to start taking lessons and he didn’t think it was fair that his sister gets to have all the fun! He would watch his sister practice the piano at home and sit by her asking question which annoyed her to death. So my wife and I figured it was time to give the birdie his wings and signed him up. Mrs. G picked a convenient time for us where they both could get lessons back to back. He started classes at the age of seven and his progression has been astonishing. Their musical ability has progressed at a great and steady pace. My daughter has played in four recitals my son has played in one. My daughter is ten years old now and has been working with Mrs. G for four years now and my son has recently started and is a little past the half year mark. They enjoy and look forward to seeing Mrs. G every week and can’t wait to show her how hard they have practiced. Even I have learned a lot about music and Mrs.G doesn’t mind me asking her questions, because I want to be able to help my children with their assignments. I would recommend her to anybody who wants to take music seriously or even for those that just want to see if they would like to take it seriously. She breaks down music to an understandable level and her methods of teaching are fun and enjoyable. She has been teaching my children for four years now and I look forward to the next four." She was a stickler on technique, which is so very important. Even if you could play the piece, but your technique was bad, she would get on you.

Marcello gave me the tools necessary to be able to play essentially whatever I want and play well. With concepts like deciding the length of a pause, how to gradually change the tempo, and deciding how to contrast dynamics, I gained the tools necessary to make these decisions on future pieces and learn how to make a piece my own. One of the most fun collections to play is Marcello's 5 seasons - one piece for each of the 4 seasons plus a finale. I even won first place in a competition with his finale piece, and I remember how happy he was that his own composition was competitive against a myriad of challenging classical pieces that only skyrocket in difficulty as the competition becomes tougher. I did a small amount of composing myself, and he helped with edits and performance advice. During my final year in high school, I switched our lessons to focus on the trumpet, which I have done in band for a while but felt that I wanted more of a challenge. Marcello recognized that my attacks are soft, so we worked on opera style music to help me work on my weakness. I have not worked on solo pieces for trumpet, and Marcello introduced me to challenging and fun pieces: Sounds of the Hudson, Bride of the Waves, and the famous "Carnival of Venice". The Carnival of Venice is a wonderful piece, so I performed it at Marcello's concert. I even found accompaniment from an orchestra that I liked, so I wrote out chords for the piano and gave him the challenge of a custom piano support. Before I left college, he introduced me to music chord theory. It was a great treat that I continued learning about in jazz electives at Michigan State. We also have hobbies in common. We played chess against each other and at first he was stronger but then I improved and managed to win and make games more competitive. During the years after lessons, we played tennis together and also had competitive games and another way to stay connected. Perhaps the strongest outcome of our relationship was that I inspired my younger cousin Frankie to take lessons. Marcello said Frankie is the strongest piano player he has taught, with his ability to learn quickly and perform pieces that none of his other students have done, such as the 3rd movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata if I remember correctly. He is likely one of the strongest competitors in competition as well. I hope I gave insight into Marcello's versatility and advanced level of teaching.

Neil is wonderful! He was so good at inspiring my son and getting him excited about lessons when he wasn’t in the mood . Neil is so good with kids, he meets them at their level and makes lessons fun and “cool”. And he is such an amazing guitarist! I wouldn’t look further if you need guitar lessons.
