Pathways Language Center
About
My classes are designed to learn in a more practical, measured way. Students will learn in a formal online classroom environment but are given opportunities to learn vocabulary, generate their own sentences and words, and given real-time feedback. All courses offered by Pathways Language Center are task-based. Students will need to take the information in the presentation from the teacher and begin trying to use it through various games and activities.
The biggest joy that I get is from seeing how happy a student becomes once they realize their first success with their target language after being in classes with me. If I can motivate a student to develop a love of learning, then all of the time and hurdles we had along the way become worth it.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like getting to know why you are interested in learning the particular language you want to study. I use that information to try to ignite an even stronger motivation to learn through a combination of lectures, games and activities, and task-based learning in my lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Science in English Linguistics with a minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I am TEFL certified from the International Tefl Academy as well.
I have teaching experience at all levels (beginner-advanced) and with students between the ages of 4-55. I have a total of 3 years of official teaching experience, which is comprised of extracurricular community ESL programs and teaching English in China.
I speak English and Mandarin Chinese fluently and am currently studying Spanish.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge a flat rate of $20 per lesson, per student for VIP (1-1) classes.
Students enrolling in group classes may get a reduced rate ($20 for the 1st student, $18 for the 2nd student, and $15 for the 3rd student). To qualify for group rates, all students must enroll for the same class and attend at the same scheduled class time.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience working with students in primary, secondary, and higher education. I also have experience with EFL teacher training in teaching methodology.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would encourage students looking to hire the right teacher to look for the teaching style of their potential tutors. Tutors should not only be passionate about what they do but also ensure that the student has ample opportunity to use the language they are learning. Why would you want to pay for classes where all you need to is listen? To truly improve in learning a language, you will need as much opportunity to listen to it, practice with it, and then make your own productions and get corrections in real time.
