Professional artist and Jackson native Kimberly Swartz is the owner of the Art Underground. A cooperative art studio on the east side of Jackson. A diverse artist, she has won national awards in both ad design and body painting. She is an accomplished actress, director and make up artist. Her photography and body painting has been published in Texas, Colorado and Australia. She loves to work on large scale projects and has painted many full size backdrops for theatrical productions. She has done set design and/or painting for Lansing Community College, The Michigan Shakespeare Festival , Michigan State University, the Michigan Opera Theatre, Portable Folio in Detroit and many local theatre groups. While at Dart container, over 20 years ago she designed a coffee cup still in use today worldwide. Her favorite creations are her 3 adult children. Kimberly is pursuing a Communications and Video degree at Spring Arbor College

What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught all ages from toddlers to the elderly. From people who have never picked up a pencil to draw before in their lives to very skilled artists who just want someone to paint with and bounce ideas off of.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher whose style you admire who will be a cheerleader for you, but also willing to push you and even themselves out of their comfort zone to obtain your art objectives.
