Hi, I'm John Planck!
I have been practicing photography for 7 years. I really enjoy all types of photography from landscapes and people to sports and wildlife. By day I am a special education teacher, by all other hours I am a photographer :) I know when I started how passionate and excited I was but I didn't have any training, fundamentals, or technical know how. As good as youtube videos are, my photography only really took off when I began learning from in person mentors.
Suppose you want to be a classical pianist, you could watch youtube videos all day, but without the guidance of an in person mentor you probably would not meet your goals or potential.
I want to help you reach your goals and potential as a photographer! I want you to have fun and learn, just like my students do in my classroom as a special education teacher.

2022 - Certificate of Photography Schoolcraft College
2017 - Diploma in Photography Shaw Academy
I have worked for Creative Vision Photography Workshops including organizing and hosting photography events, and teaching. (2019-present)
I have had clients and provided photography for Sr. high school students, family portraits, weddings, and other events.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After a brief phone/text conversation, let's arrange a time and place to meet (coffee shop, cafe, etc.). We will expand on your questions and interests for about an hour and then head out to practice in the real world for a couple hours.

How did you get started teaching?
I was invited by some of my instructors in photography at Schoolcraft College to begin teaching at Creative Vision Photography Workshops.
Additionally, I have been teaching special education for 13 years.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from ages 20-70 in photography. In special education students K-12.
