About

I am a Hope College graduate with a major in Music Education. I have a passion for piano, and a passion for teaching! I love teaching beginning students and it's great to see the wonder and excitement in their eyes when they sit down to the piano for the first time! I also enjoy teaching intermediate and advanced students and helping them toward their goal. In addition to classical piano I also enjoy teaching church worship music. Please contact me (616-450-8980) if you are interested in learning more about piano lessons!

I took piano lessons from Dan DuPuis for over three years, and in that time I progressed a lot. He is a great teacher. A normal lesson for me consisted of playing the pieces I practiced over the week, and after each piece he would comment on where I could improve myself and the piece. Then he would assign the new piano pieces for the next week and have me play/sight read them. At the end of a lesson, if we had time, I would play a worship song that I had practiced (I was just learning how to play in a key, like A major, and I loved doing it). Mr. DuPuis really helped me develop a love for the piano that outlasted how long he taught me. He was very encouraging and it was obvious that he loved teaching kids. I would recommend Mr. DuPuis to any students that want to gain a deeper love and appreciation for piano.

Dan is a wonderful teacher. He is very patient with the kids & teaches at a comfortable pace. My son started with him when he was just finishing 1st grade & is now going into 6th & he still loves playing! Dan is great to work with!

Frequently asked questions

I sit down with the student, ask some questions to get familiar with the student, let them ask me questions, just to break the ice.  Then we look at the new piano books and discuss what each book is for.  After that, we work through each book for the first lesson once the student is comfortable and ready!

I have a music education degree from Hope College as well as 35+ years piano playing experience.

I charge $25 per half hour, and $50 per hour lesson. Lessons are typically weekly.

I have worked at various churches over the past 10 or so years, and several years back an old college frind of mine asked me if I'd be interested in giving their sons piano lessons.  Once that began, the word spread, and here I am today with many students!

I have worked with beginners in the first grade, many in the elementary age range, middle school age, and a few adult students as well.
