Templar Firearms Training
About
Being an armed citizen is much different than military rules of engagement or the limited immunity of being a law enforcement officer. We specialize in training armed civilians in the law and the aftermath of the defensive gun use. When seconds count, the police are just minutes away.
The satisfaction I get when a student comes to me with little knowledge and no confidence and leaves as an advocate of the 2nd Amendment and being a safe and responsible ambassador for all Minnesota gun owners.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our Firearms 101 class starts at the very beginning with a "no question is too stupid" policy. We cover basic terminology and history of firearms before starting with plastic guns to go over the 4 rules of firearm safety, how to safely handle and hold a firearm, how a revolver and semi-automatic work, and end the class on the range firing 50 rounds
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a Minnesota Certified Firearms Instructor since 2004 and have testified before the Minnesota Legislature as an expert witness on Minnesota Firearms law.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Firearms 101 Introduction to Firearms: $110 ($90 in advance)
Minnesota Permit to Carry: $90 ($75 in advance)
Firearms 101 & MN Permit Package: $175 ($150 in advance)
Permit to Carry Instuctor Certification: Contact Us
How did you get started teaching?
In 2004 I was working with my father as a Private Investigator and when my parents were killed in an auto accident I started working as an instructor.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have had 78 year-old great grandmothers who have never fired a weapon and Tier 1 operators who have just rotated off the Teams and wanted training on how to be an armed civilian
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A woman coming into my Firearms 101 class who was from Russia and had never shot a firearm before. She was one of the 8 million people in the United States who purchased a firearm for the first time in 2020. She was so nervous and uncomfortable she jumped every time she heard the slide released.
After my 101 and Permit to Carry class she was so into (safely!) shooting that she wanted private lessons in situational awareness and combat tactics.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they have the experience you are looking forto teach the class that you are intending to take, and that they make you feel comfortable that they are teaching and following all the rules of firearms safety.
