Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like new students to tell me about themselves and their interests. I love to see examples of their previous work, if applicable, so I can design a course of action to work with them. I am very open and encouraging. 'No drawing is a bad drawing.'
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching for over 20 years at the University and college level. I have recently starting teaching with groups of seniors in my community. I have also taught private lessons in my studio for ages 8 and above. Most of my students are very interested and accomplished in art but I am also open to students new to art.
I have a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University where I also studied painting. My professional work blurs the boundaries of Art and Architecture. I teach in multiple areas: drawing, painting (watercolor and oil), collage and mixed media, color theory, design, architecture, and digital media.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I normally charge $150 for 4 small group lessons. (each lesson is 1 3/4 hours) Small group private lessons range from 4-6 students. Ages 8-54
I charge $75 per hour for senior classes. Students ages 55+ These are normally funded by the State Arts Board.
I charge $100 for private college portfolio consultation. These lessons/meetings last for 1- 1 1/2 hours.
Lessons for groups of 1-3 students are negotiable.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always enjoyed teaching and love to see my students succeed. I have been teaching as a 'Graduate Teaching Fellow' since I was in graduate school at Yale University. I taught architecture design, drawing, History of Art I and II, and History of Modern Architecture to Yale undergraduate students.

I loved helping a recent class of students in Edina present their collage work to their community, family and friends.
