Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Each student is different and as such, I need to address each student as an individual. The initial steps I take with new students are to understand what they want to accomplish, inquire about the type of art they wish to do, and assess their current skill level. From Here I can train and work with the individual to help them accomplish their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in fine art and have been studying and practicing art for over 20 years, with over 10 years of professional training experience.
I taught art in a studio setting for several years in the southern suburbs of MN. My primary focus was on teaching students from the ages of 16-25, helping them understand the fundamentals of drawing and painting.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching when I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Fine Art. I taught for years, educating people between the ages of 14 - 25 on how to draw and paint.
I come from a family of artists and art teachers, they have helped me hone my skills so that I can share them with future artists.
What types of students have you worked with?
I am open to any type of student who desires to learn. The subject matter can be as you like it and I'll be happy to help you advance your art. If you want to draw classical portraits, science fiction robots, fantasy art, or even your favorite scenes from movies I'm happy to contribute to your success. (Please keep in mind that all subjects chosen to be drawn or painted must be appropriate)
The majority of students I have worked with are between the ages of 14 and 30 years old. This being said I prefer to work with students of age 16 and older.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The fundamentals of art are very important. The first thing you need to look for in a teacher is someone who will help you understand these fundamentals so you can apply them to your own chosen subject matter.
