My strengths as a teacher are demonstrating how colors are relating, how to make your colors pop, and mixing a palette. I enjoy creating lessons that reveal the foundations of painting and drawing in an easy to understand way. After we have the foundations, we learn about what happens when we break the rules and finally we explore developing content. Why are you making art, what do you want to say, what happens when your work is guided by intuition?
I enjoy being with people while they are having the adventure of making art. It is frustrating and rewarding, it can be very hard work and then suddenly some simplicity arrives. Learning to draw and paint by observation reveals how much we really don't see the world we live in. Learning the foundations of the illusion that is a painting creates tools for visualizing the world you want to live in. These are skills that my students can use throughout their life, to solve problems, to relax and to dream. Its always powerful to be with people as they are growing through their own will.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Together we establish a baseline for what they are looking for. Some people are beginners and have never worked with a palette, mixed colors or touched a brush to paper or canvas. Others are already familiar but have found themselves at a block. I have all kids of exercises and ideas for approaching the work.
