Mark Granlund Studio
About
I am a good communicator with exact but easy to understand instruction in art. I am also very accepting of where people are at and supportive in their journey of development at art. I have been teaching art, including online classes, for more than 25 years. I have taught art at Brooklyn College, Bethel College, at the Como Park Conservatory and Zoo, and in my studio.
I enjoy helping people learn the elements of making a good drawing or painting so they can express themselves and fill their world with beauty.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I try to find out what level of experience my students have. Many students have had some art experience or previous classes. For many it has been awhile since they have taken any classes or been active with their art. I also have many students that are novices. Once their level is determined, I begin to teach the basics and fill in any gaps that are noticeable in their work. I try to relate most of what I teach directly to my students art. It is best if you can see for yourself where you are doing well and where you need improvement. My goal is to make you an independent artmaker. You may always come back and take classes or seek consultation, but my goal is for you to be independently following your own voice with your work. That may mean that you are exploring your feelings and emotions in a dynamic way or it may mean that you gain the most from the process by exploring different techniques and variations to applying the medium.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in studio art from Bethel College, Saint Paul, MN and I have Masters in Fine Arts degree from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, New York.
