About
I have 8 years experience teaching Photography online and at National photo meet-ups through betterphoto.com, and 4 years experience teaching in person through MPLS Photo Center, as well as independently.
I custom tailor each lesson to suit the goals and ability levels of each student, and assign homework each week. Lessons include up to four detailed image critiques and unlimited Q&A via email.
I literally wrote "the books" on child photography and the business of photography (CREATIVE TECHNIQUES FOR PHOTOGRAPHING CHILDREN and THE PHOTOGRAPHER'S MARKET GUIDE TO BUILDING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS) both published by Writer's Digest Books/F+W Publications. My latest book, PHOTO EDITING FOR PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHERS, is due to be completed in November 2018.
I love working with aspiring photogs and seeing their enthusiasm when they learn to apply technique to establish their creative voices. I get to witness those fabulous "light bulb" moments. My students inspire me as much as I do them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I encourage a no obligation, complimentary meeting to assure we are a good fit and to solidify the student's goals and needs.
Then we will typically meet for 90 minutes at different locations for each lesson and I provide a written lesson and a written homework assignment. We execute the lesson and then the student has a week to execute the homework assignment and email me up to 4 images for a detailed critique.
I design each subsequent lesson/assignment based on feedback from the student during the previous lesson.
