Kara Hofschild Basketball Lessons And Tutoring

About this pro

I am eager and ready to help students and players alike achieve their goals!  I was a division II women's basketball player and love the game.  Most of all, I love teaching youth new skills and watching them practice until they have mastered the skill.  I also was a Biology major in my undergraduate degree.  I love biology and I am fascinated with the body!

I love using the skills I have to help others.  I have a Master's degree in occupational therapy because I want to help people do the things that have the most meaning to them in the most functional way possible.  During my work with students and players, I love seeing the breakthroughs that occur to gain a new grasp on material or on a skill.  I live for increasing ability with a positive attitude and a lot of motivation.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When I work with a new student, I like to ask what method helps them learn best.  For some, diagrams and pictures make the material the most clear, and for others, words and charts are more helpful.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Psychology along with a M.S. in Occupational Therapy.

I was a Division II women's basketball player for 4 years in college.  I played AAU basketball since I was 12 and have done coaching for camps, etc.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I charge $30 for one hour of tutoring.

I charge $40 for one hour of basketball lessons.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with undergraduate students and also my peers.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I recently ran a marathon called the Med City Marathon that I thought was well organized and was a very good experience for me!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Biology may be a tough subject for some to understand, but with the right help, it is definitely managable, even interesting for some!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Have a solution to your question or train of thinking in mind before asking the question. It is helpful for any teacher to know what thought process you went through to help you get to the right answer.
