Frequently asked questions

Getting to know you is important for our first lesson. Every student has a unique story and unique skills. You can expect me to listen carefully to you and your plans.
I will ask you about your goals. What do you want to learn? What would you like to focus on during your lesson? This is about you and your learning. From there, I will work on lessons designed for you.

- I have a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) from Southern Illinois University.

- I am certified as a copyeditor through the University of California San Diego.

- I have a bachelor's degree in World Religions with a minor in art history.

When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to be an ESL teacher. While I was working on my BA, I took a TESL class and tutored a young student in the nearby public schools. After college, I went to Slovakia and taught English for a year. It was a great experience, so I got my MA in TESOL. I've been teaching ever since, and have met incredible students.
I have worked with students ages five to 80. Most of my career has been teaching teenagers and adults ages 16+. Many of the students I've taught are refugees. Other students want to learn English because they recently moved here. Some students live in other countries and meet me over Zoom or Google Meet.
Look at the tutor's teaching and tutoring experience. The more experience, the better. Next, look at their education. Be sure you choose a teacher who has studied how to teach for at least two to four years. Finally, read the reviews for that tutor.

Ask potential teachers about their education and experience. Ask them about their teaching style and what their teaching philosophy is.

Make sure you are getting the best teacher to meet your needs.
