Samantha Hamilton Cello Studio

About

Samantha mixes the Suzuki method with her own personal style to get a hybrid of teaching - having Suzuki elements of that core discipline and practice methods, as well as extensive ear training, but also incorporating other method books such as Essential Elements to shake up the typical curriculum. She also goes the student's pace while challenging them - no lesson plan is the exact same for each student.

Lessons with Samantha include games and exercises to teach a key skill, learning new practice techniques, and encouragement to really master core techniques in whatever solo piece the student is learning.

Samantha has been a private teacher for 8 years in various parts of the country such as New York, Minnesota, and North Dakota. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Cello Performance from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in 2014, as well as studying at the University of Minnesota for her Master of Arts with Tanya Remenikova.

    Frequently asked questions

A typical first lesson with me would be a conversation about any past experience with the cello, why the student has chosen the cello if they are a beginner, and what they hope to get out of lessons.

To show the student my teaching style, there will be a playing element: if the student has any background experience with cello, I'll ask them to play a small musical piece. If they are a true beginner, I will show them basic playing elements.
