Bohm Piano Instruction
About
Hi Mike,
I have over 30 years teaching including many adult beginners. I teach only at my student's home. I am experienced and flexible in the style of music I teach, whether you want to learn classical, jazz, standards, or whatever type of piano you are interested in. I am very patient with adult beginners, as they need a teacher who works at their learning speed.
I live in Ballwin, so that is close. I have availability during the evening or daytime.
Please give me contact information if you would like to talk.
Sincerely,
Keith Bohm

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First is to tell the student and parents about myself. Then on to assess the student's playing ability and level. Next I talk to the student and parents about the type of music they are interested in learning. I also look at basic theory knowledge,, and sight-reading ability. We talk about practice time, and I get a feel for the student's interest and committment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelors Music, Piano Performance and Theory and Composition
Masterclasses with :
Van Cliburn-Texas Christian University
Luiz Moura Castro Texas Christian University
John Giordano, Conductor Ft. Worth Symphony

With notice, or if I have to reschedule a lesson, it will be made up as soon as possible. The 6 month (or 26 week period) is based on 22 lessons given. Ther will be holidays, vacation and sick days that I have allowed 4 weeks to miss lessons without makeups. Any othe missed lessons more than 4, see makeup rules above.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching when I was in University. I continued teaching to primarily young students for the next 4 years. After I moved from Texas, I taught on a part-time basis for 30 years. I started teaching full time again 4 years ago.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked withbeginners starting age 5, to senior adults. I have worked with college majors, recital, jury and competition students. My favorite level to work with is a student with 3-6 years of lessons who is looking to improve.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The great Alfred Brendel in recital at Powell Hall performing the Beethoven Diabelli Variations.
Latin Jazz Trumpeter Arturo Sandavol and his band at The Sheldon Memorial.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I teach primarily classical, but I understand a student wanting to learn other types of music. Classical provides the foundation for all other genres, so that has to come first. Jazz is totally a new set of rules, but more difficult with out a classical background. Popular Music is usually easier to learn. So the advice is to build a foundataion, then branch out into other music if you like.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Am I serious about learning the piano, or is it what my parents want me to do.
How much time am I willing to practice a day?
What is my goal for learning the piano?
