I'm a professional watercolor illustrator who enjoys sharing my joy of painting with others. My teaching experience has included students at all skill levels and at any age... they literally range from 9-90! In addition to my custom pet portrait business, I license my work through MHS Licensing. My images can be found on a variety of products in the marketplace, including greeting cards, calendars, fabric and home decor. I love painting with watercolor. Its elusive nature is both a challenge and a delight for me. So many people say they fear the medium, including fellow artists, but I love to help them get over that fear and learn how to dance with it.
Getting to paint a beloved pet for someone is a privilege, and I never grow tired of it. I love capturing the essence of each subject.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first listen and ask questions about what each student wants and then tailor the instruction to ensure I meet those expectations. A 9-year-old just learning to develop his drawing and observation skills is quite different than an accomplished adult artist who wants to improve her work in specific ways.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BFA-Design from the University of Kansas. Visual Communications, combined track of Graphic Design and Illustration

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching by assisting my friend and mentor, Gail Flores, with her Watercolor Floral workshops.

My students have ranged from 9-90! And every skill level, from true beginners to highly accomplished painters.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't settle... keep looking until you find someone you are comfortable with and who inspires you. Learning a new skill or improving one should be a joy.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A student should think about what they are passionate about learning. Is it basic drawing/observation skills? Is it exploring the exciting world of watercolor? They should be honest about where they are now (skill level) and hopeful about where they hope to go.
