I love helping students of all levels learn new and different ways of seeing photography. When I first got into photography as a student in high school I has several mentors, professional photographers who encouraged me and teach me techniques that I still use to this day when I shoot. I want to give back in the same way they helped me. I am an open photography book my students can ask me anything! They will learn more from me in 2 hours than watching 20 hours of Youtube videos. :)

WHen contacting for a workshop or lesson please make a list of topics you'd like to learn or review. Some topics from better in-camera capture onlocation to Photoshop and Lightroom techniques might be better broken into a couple of classes giving student / teacher more time to go over each type in more detail and be les rushed. Matt will customize each lesson based on the individual students needs. Nothing is off limits!

How did you get started teaching?
Over the course of a few years I was contact by misc local and state colleges to come and speak to students as a professional photographer. A few of these colleges were KU, MU, UMKC, JCCC, NWMSU and UCM to name a few. Because of those lectures I mentored dozens of interns over summer breaks and during the regular school year. I found the knowledge and experience they gained while interning for me at the studio and on various client shoots was more than they were learning in "college life" and on Youtube videos. I have also has dozens and doznes of assistants and have taugh them valuable business skills including pricing, client negotiating for paid gigs and keeping paid clients happy! From all of that I decided to expand on those experiences and teach all levels of photography not to just the 20-25 year olds in college. All levels are welcome to learn from me!
What types of students have you worked with?
All levels of photograpphy skills can inquire about a 1on1 lesson included husbands and wives - both with or without kids have taken classes as a "family" (Ex: Mother / Daughter and Father / Son "date" classes) or individuals. Amatuers, hobby photographers, semi-professional looking to make the leap and full time professional photographers wanting to build a sucssessful business. I teach hands-on photography and explain things so you don't get lost in the technical details and in a way thats easy to remember. The best way to learn is to ask and then do it! I apply that to my lessons and always encourage you to shoot more and always be open to new ways of doing things. I learn from you too! #nevertooldtolearn
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Workshops may also include shooting in the field with a model at a location of your choosing OR at the studio with your model, wardrobe and props.
Class consists of 2+ hour hands on instruction including time for Q & A's. Instructor encourages any photography related questions, nothing is off limits! Make a list before class and try to stump Matt!
