I love helping people express their creativity. The sharing of ideas... the opportunities to release stress... the chances to appreciate individuality and build self confidence...
I hold a BS in Design with a concentration in Textiles. My love of nature and surface design influences my own artwork. Drawing is the foundation of all art forms. Helping students with drawing skills will enable further development of other visual art interests.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always like to see any past or current work. My style is humanistic; making students comfortable, encouraging them to explore their creativity. I work with students of all levels.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Bachelor of Design and have developed my own artwork throughout my career.

How did you get started teaching?
One of my first teaching experiences was at a K-6 school in Charlotte, NC back in the mid-80's. Since then, I have taught drawing and specialty art classes throughout my career.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from all walks of life, all ages, all levels. People who say they can't draw at all, and then, find out that they can draw afterall. And they learn to draw quite well. I also work with students who are building their portfolios for college entrance and students with disabilities. I offer paint parties and specialty classes for personal groups and businesses.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I provide painting classes for Seniors and one of my 96 year old students declared that she never knew she had so much talent. She raised 8 children and hadn't pursued her love of painting until I started classes with her. As she proudly showed off her work to her adult children, I was overjoyed to witness the new confidence she gained through art making.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a compassionate teacher who shares their expertise openly, providing you with tools to improve your skills. Look for a teacher who inspires you to explore your interests, take risks, and enjoy the wonderful process of art making.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Am I willing to practice?
Am I willing to try new techniques and/or explore new subjects?
Am I willing to learn about other artists?
Am I willing to self-critique my work?
Am I willing to create art, even if I don't have the supplies I wish I had?
Am I willing to create art for others and/or myself?
These questions are a springboard so students can think about ways to express themselves visually. The answers are personal.
