About
My name is Kevin Gibbs founder of Born Winner basketball. I have 25+ years playing basketball on multiple levels ranging from high school, NJCAA, and NCAA. After a standout high school career at Roosevelt high school in Yonkers NY, I received a scholarship to nationally ranked Monroe College. In 2011, I was selected to the all academic CIAA first team for St. Augustine's University, a division 2 university in Raleigh NC. This award I am most proud of because it put me in an elite class of college athletes. I finished my playing career at Guilford College where I was captain for the Quakers nationally ranked team.
After completing my studies, I linked with longtime coach and mentor Coach Kyle Solomon at S4G prep academy. I spent 7 years at S4G as their Director of Player Development. During his tenure at S4G, I helped 70+ student athletes receive basketball scholarships, some whom have received professional contracts to play in the NBA and on International teams.
In 2018, I decided to take his wealth of basketball experience to a younger demographic. Born Winner Basketball was formed with a mission to reach, shape, and mold the next generation of student athlete goal is to use basketball to help athletes local and global build confidence, self esteem, and faith in god.
Born Winner Basketball training philosophy is built upon what I call the 4 Fs: Fun, Fundamentals, Faith, and Family. I believe if athletes, and people in general have fun while working hard it encourages and motivates them to want to push pass any limitations they may face. Our training philosophy is based on building a strong foundation of basketball fundamentals by teaching, instilling, and reinforcing proper basketball technique during the duration of a players development. A very important component of our training is family.
Born Winner Basketball strives to to be a family away from family. Our goal is to help every member reach their goal in life so whether an athlete has aspirations to play collegiately, professionally, or plays for recreation, they know we love and care for their ultimate well being. These components are designed to instill faith in the athlete to believe that all things are possible. We aim to instill life changing confidence in our athletes that allows them to destroy negative self talk and negative stereotypes.
A typical training session with me will cover development for the the athletes complete basketball game. We track players progress and we use positive reinforcement to keep our players motivated while still be able to challenge them to achieve maximum results. 1. Dynamic stretching(Footwork,Agility,Body control)
2. Ball handling(Stationary,On the move, Game situation)
3. Shooting(Fundamental principles, 1 dribble shoots, 2 dribble shots, counter moves)
4. Extra work on Weaknesses and magnification of strengths Each training session varies from player to player based on skill levels. Each session is desgned to instill confidence in athlete.
Athletes that gain the most from our training programs are those that are willing to work hard, pay attention to detail, and most importantly, have patience to consistently stay with their training and development plan. We have a proven system that helps players from various skill levels. Born Winner Basketball can benefit beginner, intermediate, and/or elite athletes reach and maximize their potential. We know our training programs are a commitment and relationship with player, families, coaches and trainers, which is why we strive to create clarity in the development process.
Born Winner Basketball offers personal training, small group, and team training. Our 1on1 are for athletes that want more intense training which is recommended for elite level athletes. Our most popular training is small group which has a 5:1 player to trainer ratio. Athletes still get an intense workout, but they get a chance to challenge and be challenged with other players of similar skill level. We also offer team training for school, universities, and youth basketball organizations looking to take their players skill development to the next level. We also offer strength and conditioning for all levels.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first step is a consultation call with parents and athlete to discuss the goals that’s our clients are striving for. Once we have the goals then we will setup an evaluation session so that i can assess the players overall skill level. The purpose for this is to find the right plan for the athletes success taking into mind the frequency they are able to participate and whether it would be best to place the athlete in our small group or personalized training. When this is done i will put together a plan to help the athlete obtain their goals.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am very proud to say that i have recently help a player struggling to get time on JV become a starter and get moved up to varsity by the end of the year. I strive to help athletes find and maximize their potential on and off the court.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that the trainer has a proven track record of helping athletes that have similar goals to yourself. There are a lot of people who have played and think because they had successas a player they can become a basketball trainer. That is not always the case its takes a different skill set to help someone else reach their goals. This is a process that includes the trainer, player, and parents. If you want to become great invest in a high level trainer that will have your best interest in mind.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How long will it take for trainer to help athlete reach there goal?
Does trainer have a steady training facility?
Does trainer have a positive attitude and is he/she only focused on basketball development?
Thers so many questions you could ask but you just have to use your best judgement when making that decision.
