About

I have been working with children and teens for over 16 years and I am equally versed in teaching adult students. I have experience working with ensembles and individuals alike. My passion is in serving others and teaching the joys of music. My approach to learning is strengths based and my goals are to help you fulfill yours.

I believe learning music is like learning a language - the more literate you are the more you can communicate and connect. Music is one of the purest forms of connecting with people and I believe everyone deserves connection and belonging. Teaching music allows me to facilitate that process.

Ben Pruitt is very knowledgeable about music both piano and vocal. He is very patient and will meet you at your level of knowledge. I have really enjoyed working with him as a student. He encourages you to be musical not mechanical! I would highly recommend him as a teacher!

Ben is a fantastic teacher who knows how to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. He is able to gauge skill precisely and know exactly where to go and how to grow from there. The improvement I saw in even the first few weeks were astonishing and I cannot wait to continue. Thank you Ben!

I like to identify what the student is looking for from lessons and assess if I am the best teacher for their goals. During this time, I also enjoy assessing where the student is in their learning process and determine how I can serve the student best.

I have a Bachelor in Music and Education with a concentration in Vocal Performance. I have also studied piano since elementary school. I have been teaching piano and voice since 2012.

I wanted to teach ever since my high school chorus experience. I loved music my whole life and realized I wanted to teach music after my teacher inspired me.

I have worked primarily with adults and teens, especially in the high school and college.

Recently, one of my students was struggling with timing on one of her piano pieces. We were both unsure of how to proceed - all the usual methods hadn't worked - until we realized together that singing along helped her. We had been working on her piano and integrating her voice allowed the music to be more embodied and the rhythm began to work itself out. It was really neat to experience her growth.

Don't be scared to try out a teacher and don't feel guilty if it doesn't work out. If the teacher doesn't fit, you are not obligated to continue working with them!

Do you have specific goals in mind? Contests, auditions, performances, etc. you are working towards? What are you looking for from your instructor?
